A member of a North American Indian people,
presently numbering approximately 9,000, who
live mainly in mountain villages in the the
SW USA, especially NE Arizona. They live in
houses of stone or of adobe (mud brick), and
farm and herd sheep. Their language belongs
to the Uto-Aztecan family.
